Ryan practices commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on employment law. Ryan’s employment practice focuses on litigating disputes over issues such as just cause, wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, disability claims, provincial and federal human rights, employment standards violations and Canada Labour Code complaints. In addition to providing full consultation and representation in judicial and administrative forums, Ryan also assists clients with implementing policies and procedures designed to minimize the potential for employment-related disputes and provides comprehensive reviews of internal human resources practices and employee contracts.
Ryan has acted on behalf of clients in a wide variety of commercial and employment-related matters before all levels of court throughout Canada, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court of Canada, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and private arbitrators.
Ryan is also a frequent writer on litigation and employment law topics. Ryan’s articles have been published in several periodicals, including The Advocates’ Journal and Just magazine.
Ryan is a member of The Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association and The Advocates’ Society. Additionally, Ryan works as a volunteer with Pro Bono Law Ontario, where he assists individuals who cannot afford legal representation.
